Jaw Session

G'day mates. So LadyBooks for Ladies needs to have its inaugural meeting! We decided to bypass all the Christmas madness and are now shooting for DECEMBER THE 30th. New Year's Eve Eve. I am still into offering up my house but I will leave it in the comments if another meeting place works better for everyone.
Let's do this thing.

Swap It!

Ladies of Ladybooks for Ladies:
I am finished with my copy of "Never Let Me Go" if anyone wants to borrow it! How is everyone liking it? Also what do we think about posting some discussion questions? I just don't want to reveal too much...

Never Let Me Go

With November in full swing we had to go ahead and choose a dang book! Since I am bossy, we went with the next book on my reading list but I think that everyone will find that this selection will make for some interesting and lively discussion. PLUS it was made into a movie and maybe we could all make a date to go to it and then have drinks afterward and argue the finer points about the casting of characters, what we imagined to be very different when we were reading the book, and so on.

OH, the book! So in case you didn't hear/see me proclaiming about it on FB (sorry for that very long thread), the book is "Never Let Me Go" by Kazuo Ishiguro. It's the same author who wrote "Remains of the Day" - a book that was also made into a movie.

So far, I am loving it. It's a slow starter and very nuanced so if you get two chapters in and find yourself thinking that nothing will ever happen in this book, just stick with it. It gets good. And a little creepy. And morally shifty....OK I won't give away too much. This trailer will do that for me.

I use GoodReads to keep track of my reading lists, etc. Join me there if you wish! Then we can look at each others libraries! Geekin' out on the 'net! But if you are looking for a copy and don't want to buy one(they are like 7 bucks on Amazon), might I suggest using Paperback Swap through GoodReads (or on its own)?

Finally we need to figure out a date for discussion. I would love to host it at my house but if we do it there and you guys want me at the meeting, it has to be before November 30th because I am skipping town then. So let's go to the comments section with the dates that might work for everyone. My favored date is November 28th which is a Sunday night and will give everyone (I think?) enough time to finish the book.

Book Club 2010

I said I was working on it! And now, it is here...LadyBooks for Ladies is the new book blog that I hope will help us remember to read book club books.

Since only ladies responded to the facebook invite, I am hoping that we can read LadyAuthors and talk about them with LadyThings like food and wine. I have a couple of ideas for the first book, that we can read for November and talk about at the beginning of December?

Here they are:

1. Fear of Flying. Erika Jong. This is my favorite book. Of all time. It is about a literary lady from New York who leaves her husband (a psychoanalyst) for another psychoanalyst and goes on a sexy romp around Europe with him. Existential Dilemmas abound, Sex is frequent and bad, and basically a friend told me that 'every woman should read this book.' I agree.

2.

3.

Actually, I really want to read Fear of Flying.

If anyone else has ideas, please write 'em down, and we can go from there!

Also, should we each pick a book a month? Or pick a theme and go with that? Does anybody care but me?
