With November in full swing we had to go ahead and choose a dang book! Since I am bossy, we went with the next book on my reading list but I think that everyone will find that this selection will make for some interesting and lively discussion. PLUS it was made into a movie and maybe we could all make a date to go to it and then have drinks afterward and argue the finer points about the casting of characters, what we imagined to be very different when we were reading the book, and so on.
OH, the book! So in case you didn't hear/see me proclaiming about it on FB (sorry for that very long thread), the book is "
Never Let Me Go" by Kazuo Ishiguro. It's the same author who wrote "Remains of the Day" - a book that was also made into a movie.
So far, I am loving it. It's a slow starter and very nuanced so if you get two chapters in and find yourself thinking that nothing will ever happen in this book, just stick with it. It gets good. And a little creepy. And morally shifty....OK I won't give away too much.
This trailer will do that for me.
I use
GoodReads to keep track of my reading lists, etc. Join me there if you wish! Then we can look at each others libraries! Geekin' out on the 'net! But if you are looking for a copy and don't want to buy one(they are like 7 bucks on Amazon), might I suggest using
Paperback Swap through GoodReads (or on its own)?
Finally we need to figure out a date for discussion. I would love to host it at my house but if we do it there and you guys want me at the meeting, it has to be before November 30th because I am skipping town then. So let's go to the comments section with the dates that might work for everyone. My favored date is November 28th which is a Sunday night and will give everyone (I think?) enough time to finish the book.
