I said I was working on it! And now, it is here...LadyBooks for Ladies is the new book blog that I hope will help us remember to read book club books.
Since only ladies responded to the facebook invite, I am hoping that we can read LadyAuthors and talk about them with LadyThings like food and wine. I have a couple of ideas for the first book, that we can read for November and talk about at the beginning of December?
Here they are:
1. Fear of Flying. Erika Jong. This is my favorite book. Of all time. It is about a literary lady from New York who leaves her husband (a psychoanalyst) for another psychoanalyst and goes on a sexy romp around Europe with him. Existential Dilemmas abound, Sex is frequent and bad, and basically a friend told me that 'every woman should read this book.' I agree.
2.
3.
Actually, I really want to read Fear of Flying.
If anyone else has ideas, please write 'em down, and we can go from there!
Also, should we each pick a book a month? Or pick a theme and go with that? Does anybody care but me?
LadyBooks for Ladies!
Lora you already made me read this book. Let's read another ladybook that has long been on everyone's list but that they have not gotten around to reading yet. Mine is Housekeeping by Mariylnn Robinson. It's a novel...not a handbook.
ReplyDeleteYou already made me read that book too. It's the only good book that she wrote.
ReplyDeleteI still really want to do this though. On my very soon to be read list (as soon as I am done with Mockingjay) is Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro who wrote Remains of the Day. Not that we have to cater to my reading list. It's just an idea. Let's get it picked for November. I really want to do this!
ReplyDeleteWhoa! That's on my soon to be read list as well - maybe we should start with it...any takers? Never Let Me Go?
ReplyDeleteI'll take it! Let's try and read it in November y'alls! and meet to discuss....right prior to the 30th? (because that is when I leave for Europe)
ReplyDeletewhat happened to the ladytheme? whatevs...never let me go has been on my list too...however, i'm just realizing i'll be on my way back from my grandma's funeral in nj that day. so count me out for nov (although i'm still going to read it and envision sitting at mayday, sipping cider with lora and discussing it anyway). i'm totes down for dec though...life will be much less hectic. loves to you all!
ReplyDeleteWell it's loosely related to a Ladytheme. There are definitely female friendships and the nuances of those at the heart of it. Maybe we can get more lady-ish in the suggestions.
ReplyDeleteIt's official! Next up: Oryx and Crake, by Margaret Atwood. 7pm at la casita de Andreita (781 Curfew St, St. P). Theme is Chinese New Year, if you choose to accept it!
